I am not really an outdoor lover, but I do go camping and trekking with friends from time-to-time. The first time I went camping is one for the books.
It was late October. We started out early so we were at the campsite before noon. My friends and I put up our tents and then decided to do a little trekking. One of my friends was left behind to guard our camp. We brought with us all the possible essentials that we might need, like drinking water, some chocolates and a first aid kit. I swear that it was completely dry and sunny when we set out to explore Mother Nature; but after only about 15 minutes, it started to drizzle. We brushed it off, thinking that it would soon stop. To our surprise, it began to rain really hard in a matter of minutes!
Some of my friends brought raincoats, so they were lucky to have some protection from the rain. I, on the other hand, a complete newbie to anything outdoorsy, had nothing to use as my protection from the sudden rain. I was totally drenched in rainwater by the time we decided to run back to our campsite. And the worst part of it all was that all my things, including my change of clothes, were wet because my backpack was not water resistant. I spent the rest of our camping trip drying out my clothes and things. It was a good thing that a friend lent me one of her shirts and shorts.
That first time taught me a valuable lesson. So the next day, accompanied by one of my camping friends, I went out to buy a waterproof backpack. On my next outdoor adventure, I was more prepared and protected – even from the unpredictable rain!
